American bakeries range from wholesale operations that supply restaurants to neighborhood shops that sell bread, pastries, cookies and cakes over the counter, and many of them also pour coffee. Bagel shops boil and bake on site and sell out of favorite flavors by late morning; donut shops open before dawn and are often family-run; patisseries and cake studios take custom orders for weddings and birthdays and usually need one to two weeks' notice. Ice cream parlors, gelato shops and frozen yogurt bars are seasonal in the northern states and year-round in the South and on the West Coast. Prices are posted per item, by the dozen or by the pound, and most shops now take cards and mobile payment.

Sarasota is in Florida, in the Southeast, where summers are long, hot and humid, winters are mild, and afternoon thunderstorms and the hurricane season from June to November can change plans at short notice. US addresses list the street number and name, then the city, state abbreviation and ZIP code, and Sarasota follows the same pattern; a suite or apartment number such as Ste 200 refers to a unit inside the building. The map link on this page shows the exact spot.

This German bakery recently opened with inside and some outside seating. The decor is very homey and not at all like the usual ubiquitous corporate coffee houses. The pastries are excellent and reasonably priced. There are some egg and other breakfast items. There is a variety of fresh breads. Yolonda is a very friendly barista who makes an outstanding dry cappuccino. Highly recommend this coffeehouse. There are several other locations including one in Venice and St Petersburg.

B E S T coffee shop in Sarasota, hands down. The young lady behind the counter was so friendly. This is where the locals come, and they make fresh sourdough bread onsite. I enjoyed the music playing softly in the background, and the sweet little German mom baking in the back, made me feel like I was in Europe. I loved the VIBE. This was the only coffee shop I could find with a built in bakery and a plethora of very creative latte drinks, European style. This is the only one I’ll visit in Sarasota.

We visited Mama G’s while in Sarasota on spring break, and it was one of the highlights of our trip. We have a German exchange student staying with us during the school year, so we wanted to find an authentic German bakery for him. Mama G’s was exactly that. From the moment we walked in, the staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming. Our exchange student was able to speak German with some of the staff, which made him feel right at home and meant a lot to him. He was genuinely impressed, and this ended up being a very special experience for him. The food was outstanding — authentic, delicious, and clearly made with care. I really enjoyed the whole atmosphere of the place. It had such a warm, lovely feel, and we especially appreciated the Christian music playing in the background. You could just sense kindness, joy, and hospitality throughout the bakery. Mama G’s was a wonderful experience for our whole family, and a memorable part of our trip. We highly recommend it to anyone looking for authentic German food, a welcoming environment, and genuinely kind people.

I came here after trying to find local apple strudel for my grandfather. I called ahead and ordered a box of pastries for pickup in the morning. When I arrived, I was greeted so kindly. The pastries were all warm and fresh and the pricing was very fair. Everyone loved the pastries, and the strudel was a hit!
